Salute to all the artists today: creative and technical. We are the passionate, the dedicated, and the persevering thinkers and doers in our community. Because that is a great deal of what it takes to create a career in music. Here’s our:

5 Ways to Grow Faster in 2020

    1. Content
A solid digital presence is so important for today’s artist. What’s the best way to build an online image? How do we get exposure? What’s the right way to engage? There is no one size fits all solution for this. It can take trial and error and some thick skin. From my experience, I would say that a great way to approach social media is to first introspect on what you are striving to portray. Let’s reverse engineer this. Imagine where you would like to be. What’s your story? What image would be best for you?  How will your audience perceive you? This will bring clarity. Then you’re ready to make content. Quality content that is consistent. Need help with content creation? Offer your creative talents to influencers and creators who do it everyday.
    2. Goals
This is so important! For example when releasing music, there are many steps: the creative process, licensing, distribution, marketing, etc. It can be overwhelming. Create S.M.A.R.T goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. And you must write them down. This will make sure you are moving in the right direction. There will be setbacks, and it may seem stagnant. Stay the course and keep your head high throughout this journey. It will be worth the fight.
    3. Value
Remember, your love for your art runs deeper than any obstacle along the way. You have a great purpose on this planet. People are interested in what you are offering. Explore avenues and get involved in opportunities that brings value to people. Engage your audience by giving them a voice throughout your journey. This will help build a loyal fan base. The Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) states that that the top 20% of your audience will generate up to 80% of your profits. This means that your most loyal fans will be the biggest supporters throughout your career! Make sure you reward them for their dedication.
    4. Mindset
Staying optimistic about your craft and your passion will not only keep you fueled to deliver your best, but it will also impact those around you. Sometimes that means taking a little break and doing something you really love (e.g. go to your favorite restaurant, spend time with loved ones, go outside in nature, listen to amazing music). It is important to take care of yourself and replenish your energies! I always say “the journey is as beautiful as the destination.” So, for the love of your art, enjoy the process.
    5. Your Team
“Teamwork makes the dream work.” Building an efficient, effective, and driven team is a salient component to artist development. Personally, I knew I wanted to have a team of people who brought different skillsets and expertise to the table, all while being passionate and devoted to music. By knowing what my capabilities are and where I could use help, I was able to better assess what type of team I would like to have. Today it is very important to have knowledge of the music business world. Therefore, reading books like “All You Need to Know About the Music Business” by Donald Passman, is seriously helpful in understanding how to construct a good team and much much more.  How do you build the best team? Start networking and learning about people in the music community. It can be a simple conversation at the music store, or even on social media. Success does not happen overnight. But each step you take, each lesson you learn, and each accomplishment you make will move you closer and closer to your goals. Opening up pathways can lead you to beautiful places. Get out there and network!
Now, how will you use these tools and ideas to grow as an artist? I’d love to hear from you.
