Social media is an addiction, right? But if you use it in the right way, it can be a powerful tool and a very effective way to promote your work. So here are some tips to create a smart online presence with your brand this year.

5 Ways to Grow on Social Media

1. Branding
   

   Treat yourself like a business. Develop a brand and create a visual style. We as musicians and artists tend to focus on our art, but we have to remember that we are a brand. We are a business. A good way to increase the visibility of your posts, is the the smart tagging strategy: Tag brands, venues, musicians, and people who worked with you or someone whose song you’re covering. This is a great way to promote yourself and connect with other people.

2. Consistency
   

   Try to keep your social media updated. If not every day, at least 3 times a week. Post something weekly around a specific time and create a custom hashtag for it too. Show your creative process. You can use a scheduling platform like Later or Hootsuite.

3. Focus
   

   Choose one social media to focus your energy. Get to know your fanbase and the best social media for you. Instagram for networking is an amazing tool. For me, Instagram has been the best marketing tool (that’s where I found VisionQuest Sound) and it has been opening doors for me. I also met many musicians and producers there. Being on social media is really important nowadays.

4. Creativity
   

   Try to create general content, like a photo series, studio session series. Also Livestreams are trending right now. Choose one song per week or month, it can be original or a cover. Stream it live to your audience. You can also use a content calendar to get ideas for digital content (I recommend Indie Band Coach).

5. Be Yourself
   

   Your authenticity will inspire people. Connect with your audience on a personal level. They want to see the real you. Besides your music, your audience also wants to see your personality and be inspired by you, through your lifestyle or daily life.
