TikTok, love it or hate it, it is a powerful tool for artists, independent artists are being signed due to sounds/videos going viral and there are millions of users watching content everyday. Today I wanted to give my top tips for TikTok as I myself have experienced growth due to this platform and I’ve found it very useful in how I frame my content.

5.  How do you catch your audience attention?

Getting to the point quickly in your videos will mean:

  • more watch time
  • more engagement
  • your video will be pushed out to more people

If you make the point, ask the question or sing the main chorus at the beginning of your video then people will watch it and watch it for longer. This is vital on TikTok, so make your videos to the point and try not to ramble when telling a story or do a long instrumental before you sing.

4. How consistent do you really need to be?

Being consistent means working out a schedule and sticking to it.

What I like to do is make about 15 videos and save them in my drafts, that way I can just go on the app and post them whenever. The more you post, the more chances you have of making fans and having more people see your content too!

Make content that you love and post it when you feel is best!

Being consistent is key on this app. I like to post once in the morning/early afternoon and in the evening, there are some people who post 4 times a day but this is up to you.

3. What is the best content to IMPACT your audience?

Make your content Educational, Funny or Story Tell.

This is something that I’m still learning on TikTok, but the basis is that your videos have to give something that people want.

Samples of amazing Tiktok content:

  • Tiktokers who post about advice for upcoming artists
  • Funny sounds made by musicians or artists
  • Artists who tell their story of how they got into their music career

Making your content funny, educational or story telling, will help you tremendously. I’d recommend telling stories of your everyday life, making funny TikToks that are relatable to you and your brand and finally teaching others. I often post my CVLOG tips as TikToks and people say it helps them a lot and I get engagement, so it’s a win win!

4. What trend is perfect for your brand?

Learn how to grow your content with the latest trends!

Trends are often how your videos will get seen and heard BUT it is important to do what’s trending IF it relates to your brand. For example there was a trend on TikTok a few months ago where you had to lay down and sing a Miley Cyrus song, as its singing and I’m a musician, this trend was perfect for me!

There can be fun trends that you can do, these are also important but the best trends to do are the ones that relate to you, don’t just do every trend or use every trending sound, because this will confuse fans on your page.

If you are pushing yourself…

as an artist and then you use every trending sound that don’t really have anything to do with music, then people will see that you’re just chasing trends and your page won’t hold the same value.

Be authentic, be yourself!

This is a vital tip because you’d be surprised at how many people love TikTok because its authentic and honest! People make content about the everyday, relatable content. I love the app because of this, I love seeing everyday people make a difference, make someone’s day because of their post.

Being yourself will gain you the audience that you want.

Don’t copy other artists, just be your authentic self, post the silly videos, posts the songs you love singing, in the way YOU sing them! Being authentic is the best way to do well on this app, so be yourself and enjoy the journey!

How will you use these tools and ideas in your artistry? We’d love to hear from you.
