“I believe that music shows and lyrics tell, so crafting both elements in a way that perfectly portrays what is going on is vital to me as a songwriter..” – Cameron Prestwich

Latest News: I just completed a song called, “Life”, with my friend Messon Jay-B for his album, “Sunshine”! The song is about figuring out one’s life and growing as a person.
Cameron, thank you for joining us today at VQS. Take us back in time to how you first fell in love with music.
I don’t think there was a specific period of time where I fell in love with music, there was always just a natural love and gravitation towards it. I do remember when I fell in love with concerts though, and how that really sparked my desire to do something with my life related to music.
In 2014, I went to KIIS fm’s Wango Tango and absolutely loved it. (I had post concert depression for a few days after that, haha.) I started going to more concerts after that and by the end of the year, I knew I wanted a career where I got to be in that environment. That’s when it hit me that people actually do this stuff for a living and that I could too. I didn’t know what exactly I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to be in the music industry somehow. I think it was about July 2015 that I figured out I wanted to be a writer, and I felt very happy and at peace when I received my answer.
What 3 core values do you believe are necessary for success?
Sincerity, humility, and empathy.
Who have been some of your favorite people/projects to work with?
Messon and I have always gotten along well and had really great writing chemistry. I went over to his place a couple of times last summer to help write ”Life”. I had a terrific time both of those days. We got food, caught up, vented, shared art we had both been working on—we just hung out like friends normally do. And when we weren’t doing that, we were writing or recording. Messon has always helped me to feel confident in my musical abilities and he’s shared valuable knowledge with me. He truly is a wonderful friend and talented musician that I’m very thankful to have in my life.
Another friend I love to write with is Zxena. Zxena and I met at the 2019 ASCAP Expo, but we really started to build our friendship when she moved to LA a few months later. She and I have also clicked really well both musically and personally from the jump. The first time we hung out, it didn’t take long for us to be comfortable with one another. We spent that day getting to know each other better and writing. I even told her about one of my problems I had at the time. She was there for me, and she has been ever since. She’s very knowledgeable and driven when it comes to music and the music industry, and I’ve been able to learn from her. I love our dynamic as friends and collaborators.
What future opportunities would you like to be involved with?
I honestly just want to co-write more and get to a point where I am able to collaborate with the writers I look up to. That’s the main thing I’m working towards for the future. I’ve done backup vocals and harmonies for my friends and I want to keep doing that. I want to release my own project as well, but more so to showcase my skills as a writer than as a singer, kind of like how producers release EPs or albums sometimes.
