Latest News: My soundtrack to the film In Orbit is on Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp and a music video I created to the track Intrinsic Perceptions is up online which focuses on a day in the life of three isolated female individuals going about their lives in search for connection and a new perspective on life. This was based around one of my favorite locations in LA, the Culver Steps at the Baldwin Hills scenic overlook in Culver City which was the focus of a series of projects I created last year. Most proudly an immersive site-specific concert which I put my heart and soul into organizing at the end of last summer called Intrinsic Strings. It’s an exploration into nature and the importance of community connection while embarking upon a trail of music in unusual and enchanted spaces in the city. I’m glad to be able to share the footage of this unique experience in a newly released highlights video which is online on Youtube, especially as it wouldn’t have been possible to organize this summer.
Emer, thank you for joining us today at VQS. Take us back in time to how you first fell in love with music.
Music entered my life at the age of 2 when I started playing the violin. One of my earliest beloved memories of music was re-enacting the opening scene to the animated Pink Panther series along with the music, moving around the living room and hiding underneath the table, imitating the motions of the character. Film and narrative music in particular has always resonated with me. I grew up with classical music but always thought up a story to go with whatever I heard or played.

What 3 core values do you believe are necessary for success?
1. Persistence, because things will always get in your way, bring you down and it’s pushing through this which gets you to the other side.
2. Flexibility, as this quality helps keep you mentally flexible, allows you to accept feedback, take risks, approach new things and you never know what you’ll end up trying or discovering.
3. Optimism, even if you find yourself feeling lost or down, knowing that the sun will come out again is core to maintaining a healthy mindset and to continue a positive outlook on life will keep you going in the right direction.
Who have been some of your favorite people/projects to work with?
Working and developing a great relationship with director Katie McNeice on the Irish film In Orbit was a highlight of last year. Not only did Katie make a beautifully unique film but artistically we connected on many levels which made it a very rewarding collaboration. Working as a violinist and arranger with composer Johnny Klimek on the Netflix show Sense8 and the Daniel Radcliffe film Jungle were wonderful projects to be involved with in my time since being in LA. Projects like Sense8 by the Wachowskis are wonderfully crafted, emotionally deep and thought provoking portrayals of the world around us which I find myself attracted to in all aspects of my career.
What future opportunities would you like to be involved with?
I’d like to collaborate with unique music producers on new projects and to start working on a new concept album. When live music is possible again, performing more of my live ambient works with violin and vocals in different venues is a goal of mine. I would also love to work on more film and video game/immersive projects as a composer and create ongoing projects that shine a light on and create solutions to issues of social isolation and avenues for community connection.
