Annia, thank you for joining us today at VQS. Take us back in time to how you first fell in love with music.
Thank you for having me! As typical as it may sound, I fell in love with music by watching Disney cartoons that are filled with amazing songs and characters. My first language is Russian and I was born and raised in Russia so I didn’t quite understand the lyrics of the songs. Back then, they didn’t translate the songs and there were no subtitles. But I used to watch them so much, over and over again, that I memorized the words without really understanding what they are about. I’m sure it’s the case for many other people whose first language is not English. I remember skipping the talking parts just so I can listen to the songs and sing along with the characters.
What 3 core values do you believe are necessary for success?
Persistence, patience and creativity.

Who have been some of your favorite people/projects to work with?
My favorite person to work with is my long time producer Jiroe (Matias Rengel). Haløver is not just me it’s also Jiroe who co-writes with me and produces every song. I met Jiroe back in Berklee College of Music and we clicked right away. Jiroe always had a particular sound in mind with a specific tone of voice and I was looking for someone who would respect my ideas and make them sound modern and at the same time unique. We created this urban/hip-hop sound with hints of soul and R&B that is, in my opinion, very captivating and refreshing. Lyrics-wise, we always try to think of a story and then turn it into a song and if possible, film a music video.
What future opportunities would you like to be involved with?
I would like to release my album and be able to share my new songs with people as soon as possible.
