Hi Hemp & Denim, welcome to VQS!
Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

Hemp Meadows and Denim Skye, a husband-and-wife vocal duo from Nashville, TN.

Our music is inspired by the retro vibes of 60s and 70s California pop and British rock with a bit of Americana thrown in. Think Fleetwood Mac meets The Beatles. We’ve been married for 35 years and just recently decided to follow our shared passion for music. Our current single “One Step Over The Line” is one result of that commitment.

What was your inspiration for this new song?

Released on September 25, 2021. “One Step Over The Line” is our first single release. Hemp wrote the words and music, sings lead and was joined by Denim on vocals to record this track. “The last couple of years have been tough for so many people. So many have endured so much and in some cases lost so much. We’re all starting over in so many ways: new jobs, careers or businesses, new relationships and so on. We wanted to create an entertaining diversion in a song that might inspire others to go out and want to make it happen again!”

What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?

Lessons from this song: “I know what it’s like be to be down and out and discouraged by life. Sometimes you’ve got to dig deep, rekindle your passion, pull yourself back up and start all over again. Sometimes you have to put a smile on your face, pretend you’re having a good time and just go for it!”

What is your favorite part of the song?

We storyboarded every scene in the music video to this.

It was all planned, from the location, to the bar and kitchen scenes, the musical performance, the close-ups, walking down the stairs, the finger snaps, the toe tapping shoes, everything. We wanted to create a storyline with two people going through some tough times together but still finding the joy in life and each other. I guess my favorite thing is the bar where we shot the video. The location had everything we were looking for that fit the retro Americana vibe of the song.
