“Art can have a big impact in changing they way we think and feel about things, so I hope to do my little part in creating awareness through the magical power of music.” – Inanna
Inanna, welcome back to VQS! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
I started this project about a year ago, it is an artpop experiment entirely dedicated to nature and animals. I want to contribute to bring the environmental and animalist issues more to the center of culture, as they should be in these times. Art can have a big impact in changing they way we think and feel about things, so I hope to do my little part in creating awareness through the magical power of music.
Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration for this song?
I was exploring different Arabic rhythms for my new songs (I have been a bellydancer for more than 15 years) and I felt I absolutely had to include one with “ayoub” rhythm, a fascinating pattern used for the mysterious and ancient Zaar dance. Zaar was used to cleanse and heal, to send away the evil spirits: the inspiration for “Heal” comes from this dance and its function, I just wanted to re-create it as a homage to the planet, as an anthem dedicated to the power of collective healing, through dance, music, movement and togetherness.
What is your vision for this song? What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?
I just hope it will make people move, relax, let go, let negativity out. And I hope that it will be another input for us to think on global levels, on how many wonderful and powerful things can happen if we move altogether, if we decide to change altogether.
What is your favorite part of the song?
The explosive and empowering ending! Zaar used to beging very slowly and get progressively faster and faster. I decided to keep it slow for the first part and have a very intense and fast ending! I can already imagine all the zaar dancers on stage twirling altogether in dervish-like turns. I hope that can happen soon! 🙂
Anything else we should know about it? Future releases? Upcoming shows?
A music video for Heal will be coming out in about 2 to 3 weeks! It will be a collaborative video, made in quarantine, with amazing fellow bellydancers from all over the world, dancing Zaar together-but-apart. I can’t wait to share with ancient and healing dance with all of you!
“Inanna is a one of a kind artist with a unique sound. Heal has incredible energy that takes us into a magical world. I can also see this song becoming a music producer’s favorite remix to spin all around the world.” – Lee Lontoc, VQS
