Kira: Luv Them Better

NEW SINGLE

Kira: Luv Them Better

kira singer songwriter

Hi Kira, welcome to VQS, Tell us a little bit about you and your music.

My name is Kira (ky-ruh) and I am a bedroom pop music artist from Los Angeles California. I currently attend Cal Poly Pomona studying Music Industry and Fashion merchandising.

I started writing music when I was ten years old when my dad got me my first guitar. I take a lot of influence from The Beatles, Joji, Melanie Martinez, and Lana Del Rey

“My lyrics tend to be blunt but fun. I like to say things most people wouldn’t want to but they are all thinking it.” – Kira

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration for this new single?

Released 01/04/21. I actually wrote this during the beginning of the pandemic. It is my first release where I did all the production myself and of course I wrote it too.

I realized that it took someone to NOT love me for me to finally love myself.

I was really inspired by Kezia and Michael Sneed because I really love their sound and I wanted to expand myself as an artist. From my experience, a lot of people don’t take you seriously if you’re a female producer so I wanted to prove to myself above all that I can do it. And well, I did.

“I hope that when people listen to this song it will empower them to luv THEMSELVES better.” – Kira

What was your vision for this song?

I hope that when people listen to this song it will empower them to luv THEMSELVES better. The entire song I am saying how my ex is treating their new partner so much better than they did with me that it caused me to put all that love for them towards myself.

By the end of the song I realize that it’s fine and as much as it does hurt.

I actually don’t need them as much as I thought which I hope everyone will come to that point where they love themselves more than anything because they deserve the best.

What is your favorite part of this song?

My favorite part of the song is the lyric “Do they write ya songs now? how long till you get bored now? say you want to be together you’re not for sure now?”
I just really like the way this phrase flows and it is a bit snarky because I know obviously they aren’t a music artist and I know for a fact they don’t write them songs. This line is such a raw feeling and I’m glad I kept it in the song.

Anything else we should know about it? Future releases? Upcoming events?

I have some features I am currently working on that may be out as soon as February! Also currently working on an EP which may be out in a year or so, so I am super excited for that.
