Grab your dancing shoes! Mark Taylor knows how to rock your world!
Hi Mark, welcome to VQS!
Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
I am a senior at Wake Forest University with a career in country music.
I’m your typical college student who loves to create. I grew up listening to the Eagles, Queen, and other classic rock records in my basement on a 1970’s Jukebox my grandfather had. I was hooked to the distorted guitar licks of Joe Walsh and the smooth vocals of Freddie Mercury.
I fell in love with country music.
My introduction to country music was at age 3 when I took my Grandmother’s Alan Jackson CD from her car and asked my dad to play it at home. I had an instant desire to combine my favorite parts of classic rock and country together. That’s where I get my sound from. Now, I love listening to the sounds of Thomas Rhett, Jake Owen, Mitchell Tenpenny and those classic rock songs I grew up on!
As you’ll see from the full record coming out very soon, it’s a big mix of my musical influences all tied together with a country sound.

Congrats on the release!
What was your inspiration for this new song?
Released August 6, 2021. “I’m Down” is the feel good love song of the summer. I wrote it sitting in my college dorm room one night and knew instantly that this had to be released in the summer months. With a little bit of country, pop, and rock elements scattered throughout the song, listeners of all genres will gravitate to the smooth vocals, distorted lead guitar riffs, and driving beat. It’s hard not to tap your foot to this one!
What was your vision for “I’m Down”?
My vision is to provide a really fun and upbeat song that can be danced to!
It was so much fun to write and perform, it’s been a crowd favorite at shows for months now. I hope that everyone can hear this song and really enjoy themselves while they jam along.
What is your favorite part of the song?
My favorite part of the song is the chorus when the song just explodes forward. The song gets super catchy and fun to sing as soon as that first chord strikes, people seem to remember the words to the chorus and say it gets stuck in their heads. That was my goal all along: a catchy chorus that people remember. The melody is super fun to sing as well.
Anything else we should know about it?
