Nia, thank you for joining us today at VQS. Take us back in time to how you first fell in love with music.
I always loved to sing as a child, but it wasn’t until High School that I truly fell in love with music. From 2008-2016 I was a part of various musical groups like chamber choirs, musical theater, and even joined a competitive a cappella group in college called Acasola. There was something so radiant about singing in big groups in a blend of different voices and harmonies that made music so magically to me. It was then when I realized I wanted to be a part of this music community forever.
What 3 core values do you believe are necessary for success?
Passion, Discipline, and Resilience are my core values for success. You need passion to fuel your desire to keep going even when things don’t go your way. You also need to discipline to organize yourself as a music business and present yourself with a professional work ethic. Lastly, being resilient and open to criticism gives yourself space to grow and improve on your artistry.
Who have been some of your favorite people/projects to work with?
One of my favorite collaborations thus far, was being a part of an acoustic duo called One Step Closer with my college homie, Miky Tayoba. In this group I found my songwriting voice that gave me the opportunity to record and showcase original music all over Southern California. If it wasn’t for this band, I wouldn’t be the artist I am today.
What future opportunities would you like to be involved with?
In the future, I would love the opportunity to collaborate with other latino artists, cinematographers, and producers as well as to travel wherever my music takes me.
