NEW SINGLE
Nita Chawla returns with
“Cross the Line”
Hi Nita, welcome to VQS
Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
Hi VisionQuest Sound! I’ve loved writing music since I was 11, but I really got into songwriting in my late teens. Music has been my main source of self-expression and almost like my therapy since then. I don’t even feel like I write the songs, but like I “channel” them. I will just be driving or taking a shower or doing laundry and I hear a whole new song in my head- the melody and the lyrics!
Then I just have to make sure to write it or record it somehow as soon as I can. These songs are often from some other place it feels. They’ve personally given me hope and encouragement when I was down (almost like a message from a much wiser person!).
I feel inspired to share my songs with others so that they could do the same for them.
Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration for this new single?
Released 3/19/21. I wrote “Cross The Line” with my dear friend and co-writer Sirsa Shekim in the spring of 2019! We met through a songwriting course and it was actually one of our first few assignments to write a song on the topic of “togetherness”.
We talked for hours before we actually started writing anything, and I think we both knew we didn’t want to write something cheesy. So I came up with the little guitar riff that set the mellow tone and Sirsa came up with the verse melody and it just flowed from there.
We didn’t know a global pandemic was up ahead, but the song really feels like it speaks to what we’re going through now. We’ve been trying to get through this pandemic and are realizing how much we need each other. We can’t stay divided and in this energy of tearing each other down any longer.
“A lot of my songs are about keeping the faith, following your heart, and having courage“
