Sandra’s back with a heart felt message: YOU

Sandra, welcome to VQS! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
I’m a Swedish singer/songwriter, born and raised in a small town called Trosa. I always had a love for America and finally made my way over here in 2012. I kept coming back every year and eventually moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to study music and develop the artist and creator in me. Today I write and release country/rock songs together with my guitarist and producer Juan Abella. We have a fantastic teamwork built on a very strong friendship and trust that allows us to create exactly the kind of songs we’re both passionate about and find meaningful. Our first two singles “Try Again” and “Same Story ‘Bout a Broken Heart” have been very successful on radio stations all over Scandinavia, Europe, Australia and the US, earning both chart placements and music award nominations. I’m very thankful for everything we’ve achieved and all the continuous support we’re given.

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration for this song?
Released 7/17/2020. Thank you so much! Every song I make is created in a different way. With this one I had another approach as my other guitarist KC Lau wrote the music for a songwriting class at school. He sent it my way to put lyrics and vocals for the demo, but we ended up loving it so much that we wanted to complete the song and officially release it! Arrangements were added by Juan, who also produced it for us, and I just love the end result!

What is your vision for this song? What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?
To me this is a happy feel-good song with beautiful warm emotions that hopefully puts people at ease and creates a smile on their face. We’ve all been in love at some point in our lives which makes it very relatable. It’s directed to that one person we all look for but might not realize is right there in front of us. I always wear my heart on my sleeve so the message is pretty clear. It’s written for that special person you find that suddenly changes the meaning of everything you thought you knew. Whether it’s a friend, lover, husband or father, it’s for that one person that knows you unlike anyone else and makes you re-evaluate yourself, become a better person and simply love yourself more. It’s a celebration of love, something I hope will make people reunite and cherish each other a little bit more during these times.

What is your favorite part of the song?
Oh, I have lots of them! I just love seeing how it all comes together and when every element ads its own chemistry to the mix. I’m always in love with all the guitar riffs and quirks buried underneath the song, in this one we have some really nice ones in the chorus and the outro. We also tried some new things and added an ebow in the breakdown to emulate the sound of a pedal steel guitar. It really added to the arrangement perfectly and created that magic touch that enhanced the romantic emotion of the song even more. I also really love the chorus! It’s very sweet and catchy and I love how the lyrics came to me so effortlessly.

We’ve been doing a lot of acoustic live streams through Instagram and Facebook lately and I also have several live interviews coming up so stay tuned and up to date. We’re as well finishing up the last few songs to complete my debut EP, which I aim to have out by fall this year. We are continuously writing on new material too so stay tuned for all the updates. There’s still a lot more in store for 2020.
