Tyler, thank you for joining us today at VQS. Take us back in time to how you first fell in love with music.
My mom always says I was singing in my crib before I could speak. Music has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, I used to wake up every day singing. I had a constant stream of music playing in my head. I spent countless nights dancing around my room, pretending to perform, and on weekends, I narrated fake radio stations using my collection of CDs. In elementary, I attended my mom’s choir rehearsals, because she was a single mother, and then I’d come home and start plucking out all of their songs on the piano. Unfortunately, my ADHD made lessons frustrating, but that didn’t keep me from trying to learn my favorite songs on my own by ear. I also taught myself how to play guitar in middle school. As I grew older, music took on more of a therapeutic role in my life, and remains one of my favorite ways to work through things.
What 3 core values do you believe are necessary for success?
Perseverance, hard work, and patience.
Who have been some of your favorite people/projects to work with?
I’ve gotten to work with so many amazing people over the years, but one of my favorite people/projects was rogue shooting my first music video with director and videographer Aaron Matthew Kaiser. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Aaron on a multitude of occasions and he’s always just a blast to be around!
What future opportunities would you like to be involved with?
First off, anything that makes concerts more accessible. Whether it be for people with various disabilities or people with lower income. Having spent years working with people on the spectrum, or with various other disabilities, I recognize that there are very specific needs when it comes to making a concert accessible for certain fans. I would love to be a part of or initiate the creation of a whole new type of concert series.
I would also love to diversify my music by creating/singing/performing things in other genres, languages, styles, etc. Music is the one thing that unifies us. It has no boundaries and needs no translation. I’ve also always dreamt of traveling the world and learning about/how to play instruments that are local or specific to each region or country I travel to. It would be cool to do that and share it with the world.
