NEW SINGLE
Warm, emotional and powerful storytelling.
Carley Varley is a singer-songwriter from the seaside town of Bournemouth UK.
There is nothing more I like than a song that features one or two instruments and voice and the reason for that is because it is very difficult to hide your style and your skills in a simple production like this one. Carly Varley is a classic singer songwriter but what I liked about her song “Since You Left“ is her strong melody and her choice of performing it in 6/8 time. Overall, this song displays her unique writing style while her voice draws you into her story telling. The swinging 6/8 feel coupled with the slight British accent that is present makes me imagine walking into a London, Southampton or Brighton pub where everyone is under Carey’s spell. I am interested in hearing what else she has up her sleeve. I would definitely like to see live concert clips. Can she produce the same type of singer to audience magic? My money says yes.
“I would like it to teach people that its okay to feel pain and be sad, its okay to miss someone.”
– Carley Varley
Hi Carley, welcome to VQS! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
Hi! My name is Carley Varley (this is my real name) and I am a full-time acoustic musician based in Bournemouth. I love to gig and creat music – I began by busking on the streets of Lymington before playing inside venues. After gaining confidence I decided to enter festivals and competitions. In 2018 I won The Venus Award for Musical Talent and in 2019 I reached the finals of Open Mic UK. This made me decide to go for music full-time and pursue my passion. I released my first EP Captured Memories in 2019 and in 2020 I released the first single to my EP Seasons, titled ‘Since You Left.’ I love to encourage other musicians and in my spare time I love baking and spending time with my dogs Obi and Chester.
Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this song?
So, I wrote this song for my friend. The love of her life left and gave her no closure and so I wanted to give her a song of reflection. I connected with the song too whilst I was writing it and I hope it gets people thinking and reminiscing.
What is your vision for this song? What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?
My vision was for people to listen to it, sing along and feel better about their situation. I grew up listening to Evanescence, Paramore and Linkin Park, singing their songs always related to me and helped me through situations. I wanted to make the song easy listening and almost slow so that the listener can connect with it well. I would like it to teach people that its okay to feel pain and be sad, its okay to miss someone.
What is your favorite part of the song?
Probably the pre-chorus ‘I’ve been betting myself that things will change, but this love for you it never goes away.’ Its very emotional and it is how you feel when someone you love leaves. Its like ‘how do I get past this?
Anything else we should know about it? Future releases? Upcoming events?
My Seasons EP is now coming out January 2021! Which is so exciting! In terms of shows none at the moment but I’d appreciate people being pointed to my mailing list on my website carleyvarley.com and adding my music to their Spotify playlists 🙂 Also to follow me on Instagram and Facebook for my covers 🙂 Thank you!
