Latest News: Scenic Underground is working diligently on a full-length album featuring Joel Herr on Lead vocals and guitar, Theron Lynott on backup vocals and drums, and myself on bass and backup vocals. The record is being produced by LA producer Jesse Holsapple and should be done and ready to release this year. In addition, some music videos will be released soon featuring singles from the album, so keep an eye out for that.
Alfie, thank you for joining us today at VQS. Take us back in time to how you first fell in love with music.
I first fell in love with music when I listened to Jimi Hendrix for the first time. I heard “Purple Haze” and I immediately was obsessed with everything I was hearing. The way he played the guitar had me mesmerized, and I couldn’t believe how seamless he made everything sound. However, I didn’t pursue music seriously until a few years later. I started with classical guitar then switched to electric guitar, however, did not have the discipline or the patience to actually have music become anything in my life. After a few years of not doing anything serious with that, I switched to bass and the whole world opened up to me. Since then, I fell in love with the process of making and performing music.
What 3 core values do you believe are necessary for success?
Having the determination to achieve your goals, maintaining a high level of professionalism, and have a genuine passion for music. All these elements shape who we are and how we treat others within the music industry. Being consistent, and borderline stubborn will get you the results that you are looking for. In addition, sticking to a good work ethic is crucial to maintaining a steady grind of creativity.
Who have been some of your favorite people/projects to work with?
I love working with all the projects I have been part of. I had the pleasure of working with award-winning producer and arranger Simon Jay, as well as award-winning rock producer Rudy Pagliuca, among many others. However, performing with my fellow Cal State LA alumni Fernando Marenco, Carly Lyman, Kia Knoester, among too many to name; have been my absolute favorite. Nothing like playing with fellow musicians that care for the music and nothing else. Quite a unique experience to connect with such amazing musicians.
What future opportunities would you like to be involved with?
I am an open-minded person and very ambitious as well. I am comfortable trying anything new. I would love to keep working with my friends and meeting new ones that share the same passion for music as I do. I just want to create, collaborate and perform music that resonates. I’m looking forward to working with the projects I am involved in, as well as joining new projects. To be more specific, I wish to keep working with amazing producers like Simon Jay, Luke Shesthra, Jesse Holsapple, Konrad OldMoney, among many others. I would like to play with other people more like David Waters who is an insanely talented piano player, and we share a deep respect and love for jazz and fusion; would be amazing to jam some tunes out with him.
