Mesmi, welcome back to VQS! Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
Hi interworld! I’m mesmi, a singer/songwriter/producer based in Los Angeles. I have a new project called Slow Bloom, and “Falling Too Far” is the latest single I released from it. All the released songs are up on music streaming services like Spotify, as well as have videos up on Youtube — you can watch the Botanical Lyric Video Series, or the 90s Nostalgia Visualizer Series!

Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration when you were writing this song?
Thank you! My inspiration basically came from this feeling of conflict and misunderstanding in a relationship… I couldn’t understand how they were perceiving me, but I tried to explain my side of things.
What is your vision for this song? What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?
I just hope people connect with the song; perhaps it can help them feel understood, or realize they’ve been feeling a certain way, or help them communicate to someone else. “Understanding” is not a very sexy answer, but it’s something I really believe in, and a lot of what music has done for me.
What is your favorite part of the song?
Hm… there are lots of cool little elements I really love, like around the second verse there are little guitar parts done by Albert Chiang that flit in and out. As a whole, I really enjoy the bridge where things fall off, giving all this open space for the words and their meaning, and where this synth comes up from underneath before everything floods back in.

Yes! I have one more single coming out the very end of this month, April 30th. Then it’s the whole “Slow Bloom” album, which will be coming out end of May, and has some exciting bits and pieces stringing everything together.
